Camping goes green in 2024
Ouistreham, January 2024 - The Camping Les Prairies de la Mer enters a new phase in its ecological transition. Thanks to the support from ADEME's Sustainable Tourism Fund, We are committed to a series of concrete actions to reduce our environmental impact and encourage you to adopt more responsible actions.
An initiative perfectly in line with the Mirabel family group's sustainable tourism approach, of which we are a part.


Concrete actions for responsible tourism
Committed camper kit
Every holidaymaker receives a welcome kit on arrival, including :
- of refillable household products,
- a dish brush,
- of selective sorting garbage cans,
- and a local product offered, A bottle of apple juice to promote short circuits and local producers.
Washable bedding protector
Disposable protections have given way to reusable covers, This reduces the amount of waste generated by lodgings.
Waste sorting and recovery
New, better-identified and more accessible sorting zones accompany holidaymakers on their journey. good waste management.
Thenergy: moving towards a low-impact campsite

Reducing energy consumption and rethinking day-to-day travel are at the heart of the ecological transition in our countries. Prairies de la Mer.
LED and solar lighting
All the lights on the campsite have been replaced with LED bulbs, allowing a significant reduction in power consumption of the campsite. Whenever possible, we install motion detectors to avoid forgetting to turn off the lights.

We have replaced the old “ball” lampposts, which consumed a lot of energy and were harmful to nocturnal fauna, with light cells directed solely towards the ground, each equipped with a "ball". integrated photovoltaic panel. The lighting is now softer, better directed, and intensifies only when a walker passes by thanks to a presence detector useful light that respects nature and the starry sky!
Electric vehicles soft mobility in everyday life
At the campsite, technical teams are on the move every day to maintain the facilities, ensure the comfort of holidaymakers and bring life to the site. For several years now electric buggies are an integral part of the camping and outdoor atmosphere.
In addition, the seasonal workers use electric cargo bikes for their internal journeys, a practical, silent and emission-free means of transport.
And to take things even further, a electric car is now used for outside travel.
From simple but powerful gestures, that contribute to the common goal of camping: reduce emissions and move towards zero carbon on-site, while preserving the user-friendliness and fluidity of the service.

Team training
Employees were trained in eco-gestures and sustainable practices, to integrate the ecological transition into their daily work.
The technical and green spaces team discovered how to managing organic waste with CPIE de Normandie. Composting may seem simple to some, but it isn't, especially when it involves collecting waste from around 300 households on vacation!
The entire campsite team also visited the’UVE in Colombelles. This is Caen la Mer's waste incineration center. It recovers the energy generated by waste incineration to heat the agglomeration's premises. The waste-to-energy plant offers tours for all ages, with a Syvedac representative. You can go too!
